The first step the Wedding couple must take is to apply for approval to the Health Services Executive Civil Registration Office. Each couple must apply directly; the hotel may not apply on their behalf.

Civil Ceremony at Cahir House Hotel

How will approval be granted to us?

Approval is granted to each individual marriage on a case by case basis and is determined by a member of the Health Services Executive Civil Registration Office. A member of this team will meet with the Wedding couple and review their application. When they are satisfied that both the hotel and the wedding couple meet the requirements, approval is then granted.

How long in advance should we apply?

Applications should be to the Health Services Executive Office made at least three months before the wedding, however, it is advisable to apply as far in advance as possible to guarantee requested dates. Approvals will be granted for civil ceremonies from July 2008 onwards.

What does the hotel have to do?

The hotel must complete a declaration form for each individual application and also ensure that the standards set out by the Health Service Executive Civil Registration Office are adhered to at all times.

How many people can we have at our ceremony?

The maximum capacity for the civil ceremony at the hotel is 80 guests.

Where will the civil ceremony take place?

The civil ceremony will take place in the Garden Room at the hotel. The Wedding couples are welcome to view the hotel by contacting our Wedding Coordinator.

How much does registration cost?

There is a notification fee of €150.00 which must be paid at the first meeting with the member of the Health Service Executive Civil Registration Office. There is also a charge of €24.45 per hour for the Registrar on the day of the ceremony. The Registrar is required to be in the building for one hour before and one hour after the ceremony so there will be a cost of €48.90, and the €24.45 will apply for each additional hour the registrar will be in the building.

Can my guests have a glass of champagne during the ceremony?

Unfortunately no food or beverage may be served or consumed in the ceremony room for one hour before, during or one hour after the ceremony.

Cahir has been designated “A centre of excellence for Wild Brown Trout Fishing. The town is built on the River Suir. The Suir is renowned as one of Europe’s finest fly rivers for Wild Brown Trout.

Very few rivers can equal it in terms of the over all numbers of Wild Brown Trout it produces and that are available to the angler. The average size of the Wild Brown Trout ranges from 20cm to 30cm.  There are very good runs of Salmon depending on water levels and condition. There are over 15 km of river accessible for fishing. The fishing locally is controlled by The Cahir & District Anglers Association.

The river Suir rises in the Devil’s Bit Mountain, travels south into Cahir. Its one of Europe’s most popular trout and salmon rivers and holds a heavy stock of fish. The best of the salmon stretch is nearby in Ardfinnan. The Suir river produced Ireland’s record rod-caught salmon. It weighed 57lbs!

A woodland-walk behind Cahir House Hotel will lead guests past a particularly picturesque stretch of the River Suir, this “cottage orné” is believed to have been designed by John Nash, one of the Regency period’s most fashionable architects. Half thatched-roof cottage, half mansion, bordered by verandas constructed of branched trees, it was a veritable theatre set that allowed the lordly couple to fantasize about being “simple folk” (down to the fact that secret doorways were constructed to allow servants to bring drinks and food without being noticed). In the nearby Galtee Mountains are the impressive limestone caves, famous for their Tír Na nÓg caverns. In Irish mythology Tír Na nÓg is the world where the fairies and leprechauns live. Many of our hotel’s younger visitors like to visit these caves in hopes of seeing a fairy or even catching a lucky leprechaun. Three-hundred-and-fifty million year old fossils in the cave walls make them a ‘must-see’. The caves are open all year round and cover approximately three kilometres.

Ireland’s number one tourist attraction and the spot where St. Patrick first plucked a shamrock to explain the mystery of the Trinity. Seat to the High Kings of Munster, The Rock of Cashel boasts Ireland’s greatest group of ecclesiastical ruins. The ‘Rock’s’ majestic grandeur is particularly magically when it is lit up at night and can been seen on its elevated site from miles around.

The castle hosts medieval banquets nightly. Staff who are dressed in 15th century clothes will lead guests to a reception room, where you’ll quaff mead made from fermented honey, apple juice, clover and heather. Sitting down at long wooden tables lit by candlelight in the great hall you’ll don a bib, which you’ll need before you dig into a four-course meal medieval-style with your fingers. Serving ‘wenches’ take time out to sing a few Irish ballads or play the harp.

The Folk Park recreates a village of the time with examples of how people lived and worked. It includes a blacksmith’s forge, a mill, bread-maker, candle maker, thatching and other traditional skills. A highlight is having your photo taken in a costume of the day before enjoying a ceili (traditional Irish night)

What do we need to do to have our Civil Ceremony Wedding at Cahir House Hotel & Beauty Spa?

The first step the Wedding couple must take is to apply for approval to the Health Services Executive Civil Registration Office. Each couple must apply directly; the hotel may not apply on their behalf.

 How will approval be granted to us?

Approval is granted to each individual marriage on a case by case basis and is determined by a member of the Health Services Executive Civil Registration Office. A member of this team will meet with the Wedding couple and review their application. When they are satisfied that both the hotel and the wedding couple meet the requirements, approval is then granted.

 How long in advance should we apply?

Applications should be to the Health Services Executive Office made at least three months before the wedding, however, it is advisable to apply as far in advance as possible to guarantee requested dates. Approvals will be granted for civil ceremonies from July 2008 onwards.

 What does the hotel have to do?

The hotel must complete a declaration form for each individual application and also ensure that the standards set out by the Health Service Executive Civil Registration Office are adhered to at all times.

 How many people can we have at our ceremony?

The maximum capacity for the civil ceremony at the hotel is 80 guests.

 Where will the civil ceremony take place?

The civil ceremony will take place in the Garden Room at the hotel. The Wedding couples are welcome to view the hotel by contacting our Wedding Coordinator.

 How much does registration cost?

There is a notification fee of €150.00 which must be paid at the first meeting with the member of the Health Service Executive Civil Registration Office. There is also a charge of €24.45 per hour for the Registrar on the day of the ceremony. The Registrar is required to be in the building for one hour before and one hour after the ceremony so there will be a cost of €48.90, and the €24.45 will apply for each additional hour the registrar will be in the building.

 Can my guests have a glass of champagne during the ceremony?

Unfortunately no food or beverage may be served or consumed in the ceremony room for one hour before, during or one hour after the ceremony.
